WE ALL RETURN TO DIRT
APPAREL DESIGN PROJECT 2
APPAREL DESIGN PROJECT 2
For this project, Temasek Polytechnic has collaborated with Singapore Airlines for their "Style on the Runway: The Up-cycling Project by SIA". 'Style on the Runway' aims to challenge students to up-cycle an array of SIA in-flight service items and materials into a modern, 2-piece avant-garde look, fit for the runway. The challenge is to utilise minimal waste, including a signature inherent of either utility or artisanship.

Through this challenge, I developed a concept titled "WE ALL RETURN TO DIRT: The Voyage". This concept is heavily influenced by my fascination and interests in mother nature and the human life cycle.
CONCEPT BOARD
The concept board i developed illustrates the overall mood and imagery i am going for, for this particular concept.” Imagery of nature and the emotions of desire and and anticipation to “returning to dirt”.
INSPIRATION BOARD
The inspiration board shows the textures and and overall silhouettes and imagery (tree bark, bare beds, etc.) i’ve taken for to create my final garment.
WE ALL RETURN TO DIRT: The Voyage
SYNOPSIS
We are all made of dirt and return to it. Some believe it is a cycle that ends when we take our last breath. Those who believe see it as a never-ending cycle as mortals. When we die, we have this strange comforting feeling that there will be a new life ahead of us. This new existence provides reassurance that there is a better life out there and that dying is merely a step towards that realm. This unusual soothing feeling gives us hope, and this is when we can depart peacefully and with content.
COLOUR STORY
The chosen shades and colours include shades of maroon, orange, browns and greys.
The redish maroon colour I chose to represent both a sense of suffering and liberation.
The shades of brown and orange to portray the nature aspect of this concept.

PHOTOSHOOT
All photos are shot and edited by me.

I devised the photoshoot to convey the concept's vibe and mood. The shooting was held in a forested environment, which fit perfectly with my concept. I wanted to generate film-like and almost vintage-like images, so I processed the photos from scratch and added borders to enhance them.
